Spotlight on 2008 Presidential Election

Women's eNews turned its spotlight onto the 2008 general election and the race for the presidency, taking a special look at races that either feature women as candidates or where women's rights are a key issue.

Rosie the Voter

(WOMENSENEWS)--When the story of our time is written, 2008 will go down in history as the Year of Hillary.

It matters not whether Hillary Rodham Clinton will win the White House, only that she is the nation's first truly viable female candidate to stake out a front-runner's position in the run for the presidency.

Her entry alone makes the race noteworthy and signifies a turning point for all women: Win or lose, after the Year of Hillary has ended, American women will no longer face questions of "if" but only the certainty of "when."

While voters are focused on the presidential run, important races are playing out across the country. Will Nancy Pelosi's Democratic Party continue to control the House of Representatives and keep her in charge as Speaker? Will women make gains in state legislatures and governor's mansions? Will anti-choice activism produce a tidal wave of ballot-box voting?

Women's eNews is keeping one eye on these races and another on the women's political agenda as we cover the elections during this decisive--and historic--election year.
